10 yr old, 12 lb Westie and Poodle Mix NEUTERED MALE for ADOPTION

 Meet 007 (Double O Seven like James Bond). He is with a rescue group in the SF Bay Area of CA and can be adopted to anyone willing to travel to us to adopt.



 



007 is a 10 yr old, 15 lb Westie and Poodle Mix NEUTERED MALE who joins us from San Jose Animal Care Center via San Jose Animal Advocates where he was treated by Tails of a Shelter Vet



 



007 came to us looking like picture #3. He has now been groomed and had a dental cleaning and labwork. He is also microchipped, vaccinated and free of parasites. Like many senior dogs, he requires a lower protein food (most dog food made for senior pets is low protein by design). He is currently eating FirstMate Pet Foods Senior Variety which can be purchased OTC (no prescription required) at many pet supply stores and at Chewy.com

 

He is missing the front half of his tongue... it has a surgical scar so it was operated on... since he was a stray that came into the shelter and was never claimed, we do not know how he damaged it.  It could have been caught on something or he could have been attacked by another dog.  We will never know. It does not keep him from eating, but it does make him drool when he is excited.



 



007 is a good boy who enjoys walks and attention. He is good on a leash and seems to be crate trained. He is housebroken completely and has not had a single accident at his foster home.  He is fine with other dogs although he is way more of a people dog than a dog-dog and he would likely prefer to be the only dog or with a dog who pays him no mind.  He is VERY attached to people and wants to be RIGHT THERE with you all of the time.

 

He has VERY MUCH the Westie personality although there is certainly something else mixed in there (we are guessing poodle).  He is STUBBORN and opinionated and would do best in a terrier-savvy home who is good at making rules and setting boundaries.  A young (or young-at-heart) senior who will give him structure AND love would be the perfect match for him.

 

He chases cats (at least ones outside of the home -- we are not sure about those in the home but would say no unless you have a good system or a very tolerant cat).  He is also not recommended for young children.  An occasional visiting grandchild would be fine.  Daily interaction is not his thing.  He is not outwardly aggressive towards them but shows very clear avoidant behaviors.  



 



As a non-shedding breed/mix he will require professional grooming every 6-8 weeks.



 



Adoptions to US Military Veterans are always free. Dogs aged 5+ can be adopted to people aged 55+ for $5. Application required and normal adoption criteria apply.
